Training lessons learned

I think I am half dead after this week but I have learned a little. I think what makes this process so appealing to me is the knowledge you gain about yourself and people around you through it.
I made it through, the feet are up and these are a few things I observed:
1 If you ride a lot it makes you tougher
2 riding a lot makes you a better runner
3 training long makes you smarter
4 I heart IM training
How do I get tougher?
What is another ride when you ride 6 days in a row? Does it ever get boring? Maybe. Does your butt ever hurt? Always. But it is how you take it in stride and just do it that makes you tougher. What doesn't kill you makes you stonger. Right? Make it count and then you draw from it later. You develop a thick skin for things like 5 hr ride.
How does riding a lot make me a better runner?
The runs you do perform have to be quality not junk miles so make every second count. Riding enables your turnover to be quicker, makes me think about each step I take and makes me a more efficient runner. Think more bang for your buck.
Training makes you smarter?
You have to be more time savvy and smarter with all the decisions you make. Maybe you are not going to go down the wet road really fast or maybe you are going to think about what you will eat for the week but whatever you do, you are using your brain to plan accordingly, and that my friends takes brains.
Why do I do it?
I love it therefore I do it. I wake up each and every day hungry for it and appreciative of the fact that I can get up and do it, what I want whenever I want. I don't have to do it. It is certainly not my job but it is certainly my passion.
And with that my friends I leave you to find yours...

Cheers.

so much to say... so little time

Rest week is over. It was apparent today as my heart rate raced along all morning long. This morning I was dreaming of sweet potatoes. So tonight I cut up 4 large ones and made homemade oven fries = delicious! I am keeping my fingers crossed for semi-dry weather this weekend. I think 80+ miles on the trainer would be interesting.
Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst day yet. Should be pretty fun in the pool.
I need some new books. The last book I read was Born to Run. I liked it so much I bought 3 copies. Reading is also a destresser and I like to fall asleep with a good book. So all you lurkers out there- Help!
I promise to be a better poster in time. A more timely poster too!
Peace out!

Ahhh....Recovery Week

Recovery weeks are great! First of all, you don't have much training to do. Secondly, when you do train it is not enough to really feel like training, thirdly, you have a life! Today was a nice easy 50 miler. Perfect distance, perfect weather. We are going to get hit hard the next few days with rain (or so they say) so it looks like all rides will be indoors.

But there is something about running in the rain that I just love. As long as I have a hat on to deflect water from my eyes, I am totally fine. And what better way to end a soaking wet run, then jumping in the pool. So tomorrow that is the plan.
On the work front, here is a picture of CRB with D money's new little man. His name is Wally and he thinks CRB is his mom!
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Cheers!

End of Training Block

Three hard weeks of training in the bank! Started my savings account for the long year ahead. A few pics of our ride yesterday. We really live in a beautiful place. Good thing *Kodak has started bringing a camera everywhere we go. After another long ride and run this girl is laying here with recovery socks and sleeves on. If you don't believe in these, you should! And Recovery Sock is the absolute best. Check them out: http://www.recoverysock.com/
Excited for the recovery week ahead and posting more. Hope you had a great weekend :)
Cheers!

Saturday = Fun Day

Yay for fun group rides with no drama! Yay for good company and that friendly push to go just a little bit more than you would go by yourself. Today was a beautiful long ride to the north. Followed by a long walk with CRB and the hubs to the wharf and back. Very low tide, crisp air, bits of sun streaming. What more could you want? This has been the last of three HARD weeks of GO. Next week = rest. Little more time for kickin back.
Cheers!
