What is working

This morning during another jogging session (can't wait for the word running to appear:) I got to thinking about what is working for me this year. Here is what I have come up with:
- the key to a good day for me is 7-8 hours of sleep every night. Means going to bed same time ish every night, even on the weekends and waking in the same time range every day. Weekend naps are nice and welcome but 20-30 minutes max. It screws up my bedtime if any longer.
- Proper recovery food right after finishing a session. Thanks Beth! Hello! This is key to the next session. (and yes sometimes I forget)
- Balancing out all other aspects of life besides just training. This is the time of year I wear many hats and balance comes in the form of other non tri related activities like hanging out with Bill longer than 1 hour a week and visiting my family and friends. Sometimes I am very guilty of breaking this one.
- Having someone believe in me and give me the tools to succeed! Lovin it!

Machine like

It is pretty safe to say I am Type "A." really Like I needed to type that so you would know! I try to stay on top of everything and be one step ahead all the time. That's not to say that I never slack but not very often.
The same thing can be said for training. If it is there, written for me, planned for me, I do it. Regardless of what time it has to happen or when it will be done. It will get done.
Sort of like a machine. You program it and it performs.
I think this sort of approach works for some people and doesn't work for others.
It definitely works for me.

Yesterday I went *jogging*. I realized during this time, that I make it happen because I want it. I am searching for the elusive "it" still, but whatever it may be, I want it. It won't be pretty or perfect, but I will get it. I also started thinking about *aspirations* because I don't really like the word *goals*.
This year and the training I am doing, my aspirations are growing. I am looking a little farther out there then the norm for me and I like it. What can I accomplish this year? How is this process going to define it? Whatever it is, I am ready to tackle full on. In my machine like, type A way.
And I will leave you with a quote from the famous Tebow:
:Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard"

Slacker

Okay so maybe I have been absent form here for awhile. There is good reason for it. I've been busy.
I last wrote in Maui. Wow. Came back from there and started running. seriously, on all fronts. From end of the year mishaps to beginning shenanigans.

Last weekend I learned again the true meaning of what truly matters. My dad has a pretty serious infection and has been hospitalized for the last ten days. I have been meaning to write a post about my last year's training, numbers etc. but now don't feel it really matters. Yes, I trained a lot. Probably not as much as some or maybe more than others, but what really mattered at the end of the year last week and this past week was that my dad is going to be okay. Every day had training, work and hospital time. This weekend things are starting to look up so there seems to be an end in sight.

So after that lovely intro here is what I know today:

- Best triathlon decision I made was changing coaches. Having a triathlete as a coach is so important. Not only have they been there done that, they get it. I love to train just like a lot of people and you have to really love it. I like the newness, the challenges and am excited for what is to come. Let's just say I am building my own custom engine and I will be very durable and bomb proof. Good stuff.

- I am becoming a swimmer. I started off the year with 100 x 100 by myself. With a 41 minute PR over last year. Could it be that I will have a really decent IM swim??

- The heartrate monitor is my friend.

- Kale really goes with just about anything. Yum.

- I am aiming for 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Words with Friends at all hours is included in this time. If you don't play me, please find me. (shameless plug!)

- I am going to blog once a week from here on out. I refuse the right to not post the last week of March and first two weeks of April.
